Wings Soar Over Bruins!

The Weyburn Red Wings showed that there young players are a force to be reckoned with after trouncing the Bruins 8-1 in exhibition action tonight at the Colosseum. Luke Johnson paced the Red Wing attack with 2 goals and 2 assists. Defenceman Ethan Gardner picked up 2 goals and 1 assist. Ryan Toporowski scored 2 goals for the Wings. Jared Whincup and Kevin Paul also added goals for the Wings. Dylan Lawrence also had three assists for the Wings. Joel Langevin chipped in with two assists. Single assists went to Andrew Perreault, Scott Mills, Mick Pawlyshyn, Blayne Lounsbury and Justin Edin. The shutout for the Red Wings was broke with just over a minute left as Brody Haygarth scored for the Bruins with Chad Filteau picking up the assist. Jamie Wutke stopped all 16 shots he faced in the first period. Ryan Simms made 10 saves in the second period while Tanner Erickson stopped 9 of the 10 shots he faced in the third period. Derek Brennan made 16 of 19 saves in 27 minutes of action for the Bruins. Paul Basek went the rest of the way stopping 22 of the 27 shots he faced. 487 fans were in attendance.

Next action for the Wings is Thursday afternoon at 4:00 in Wilcox as they face the Humboldt Broncos at the inaugural Notre Dame tournament. The Bruins, Hounds and Terriers will also be taking part in this tournament.

The Wings return to home ice Friday night when the Notre Dame Hounds come to town. Game time is 7:30. See ya at the rink.
