TK: What went wrong in the game versus Humbolt?

Dwight McMillan:Their powerplay was too much for our penalty kill, plain and simple. They had a great powerplay and scored great goals. We were pleased that we played well with them five on five but our powerplay wasn’t working so that’s just what happened.

TK: How did you calm the guys down and get them back on track to get a 2-1 victory versus Melfort?

Dwight McMillan: We just had to talk to the guys and tell them a loss like that early on isn’t the end of the world. Tomorrow is another day and they just have to get out there and work hard.

TK: How did you feel about the play of AJ Whiffen in his first SJHL game?

Dwight McMillan: He played real well and made some great saves. He didn’t have a lot of shots on him but he did make four or five great saves to keep us in the game.

TK: What do you think you can expect from Flin Flon during the weekend game in Saskatoon?

Dwight McMillan: They are a much improved team from last year, they have newly recruited players who can score. They are a team full of enthusiasm this year and are going to be a tough club to play this year.

Following my interview with Dwight I also caught up with goalie AJ Whiffen after his first SJHL victory to get some comments from him.

TK: Well you have that first win under your belt AJ, how did you feel going into the game versus Melfort?

AJ Whiffen: I was pretty nervous, but really excited at the same time.

TK: Do you think it was easier making your first start away from the hometown Weyburn crowd where you might not feel as much pressure to perform?

AJ Whiffen: That’s a tough question, Maybe it was, but there wasn’t as many fans in Melfort as we have at our games and I am used to our rink and used to the angles and bounces the pucks can take off of the boards.

TK: Did you hear from you family following your win?

AJ Whiffen: Yah. My dad called me in the morning and I also got a call from a news reporter back home.

TK: Are you looking forward to playing in front of a packed Weyburn Colosseum sometime?

AJ Whiffen: Yes I am.
