Sunday at the Showcase

Game 1 is in the books for the day and it was a goaltenders battle which saw the Melville Millionaires improve to 5-0 with a 2-1 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves (2-4). The star of the game though was goaltender Brian Kaval of the Ice Wolves who in his first SJHL start stopped 43 of 45 shots. The Wolves have an embarrassment of riches in goal with Jonathan Jobin and Kaval in the mix. They moved Dallas Ungarian to the Maritime league yesterday. It was a 34 second span in the second period which spoiled the day for the Wolves as Daniel Hope and Shane Stanicky scored in that span. Bryant Dyke, Derek Edwards and Kyle Cantlon had assists for the Mils who got 28 saves from Cantlon. Bruno-Pier Gosselin had the goal for La Ronge with assists going to Steve Charest and Sterling Bear.

The Kindersley Klippers picked up there third win of the season as they defeated the Flin Flon Bombers 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday afternoon in Saskatoon. The Bombers led 2-0 after two periods before surrendering the lead in the third period and then having to tie the game with only 8 seconds to go in regulation. Ryan Sawka was the hero in the shootout for Kindersley. He also had an assist in the game. Kendall Holmes had a pair of goals for the Klippers while Casey Rempel added a single. Kirk Pearce chipped in with two assists. Reid MacLeod led the Bombers attack with a pair of goals. Dennis Kubat also had the other Bombers goal. Michael Young and Pierre-Luc Boucher each had two assists for Flin Flon. Ryan Nieszner got the win for Kindersley as he made 34 saves in the victory. Carsen Chubak is still looking for his first SJHL win as he made 36 saves in the loss.

The Yorkton Terriers won their second straight game as they downed the previous perfect Humboldt Broncos 4-3 in the final game of the Showcase tournament. Jeff Steele led the way for the Terriers as he had a goal and two assists. Kyle Block added a goal and two assists. Derek Serdachny picked up the winning goal for the Terriers with just over 4 minutes to play in regulation. Chris Bratina added two assists for Yorkton. Jordan Schindel, Laurent Benjamin and Brayden Klimosko each had a goal and an assist for the Broncos. Brady Wacker added two assists. Lynden Sammartino was solid in goal for the Terriers as he stopped 37 pucks. Andrew Bodnarchuk gave Taylor Nelson the night off and he stopped 21 of the 25 shots he faced in the Broncos goal. The Terriers improve to 2-3-0-1 while the Broncos are now 4-1.
