The Weyburn Red Wings are heading home from Saskatoon a happy bunch after defeating the Battlefords North Stars 3-1 this afternoon. AJ Whiffen making his second start of the season was sensational as he turned aside 42 shots. Brayden Nargang put the Wings up 1-0 with 4 seconds to go in the first period on a power play marker. Torrey Lindsay and Preston Shupe assisted on the goal. Following a rather uneventful second period, the Wings turned it on in the third. Luke Johnson made it 2-0 at 5:11 of the third period with the assists going to Joel Langevin and Josh Bray. With Michael Seib serving an extra two minutes after a fight with the Stars Barrett Penner, Stephen Simms managed to score a short-handed goal for his first of the season. Nargang and Lindsay each picked up their second points of the game on the goal as they assisted. Just 26 seconds after Simms' goal, the Stars got on the board as Scott Day scored to make it 3-1. Ryan Kerpan played well in goal for the Stars as he stopped 32 of 35 shots he faced. Nargang now has four points in two games since returning to the Wings from the WHL's Tri-City Americans. The Wings have tomorrow off now before returning to home ice on Tuesday night when the Nipawin Hawks come to town. Game time will be 7:30.
