Coaches Corner with Coach McMillan

"It was just excellent to come out of the weekend with four points against two great teams, I am really proud of the guys and how they all stepped up this weekend." Those are the words of Coach Dwight McMillan, and as you can tell the Red Wings impressed him and the fans at the September Showcase in Saskatoon.

I went to visit coach McMillan this morning to get some comments and he was more than happy to speak even after he smashed into a deer during the drive home last night. I kid you not, but for more on that you will have to speak to Dwight yourself.

TK: Did you want to change up your gameplan after a very high scoring game against Flin Flon on Saturday?

DM: I was pleased to see our guys start scoring some goals but we wanted to tighten up our defence and we did that versus Battlefords and we got some help in net as AJ whiffen played outstanding for us in that game.

TK: Would you say AJ Whiffen is making Kyle McConnell work for his starting position?

DM: Oh no doubt, he is some great competition. AJ is a starter in the Junior A league. He has only allowed two goals in his first two games and it's not like they are weak shots either, he is making key saves.

TK: Did you like the look of Brayden Nargang during his first games back with the Red Wings?

DM: Definitely he played real well. Four points in two games is a great first outing and I think he is just going to get better. The line with Nargang, Shupe and Lindsay looked real good on the ice during the weekend.

TK: What are you going to do to get ready for Nipawin tomorrow night?

DM: Well we just got done living in motels for two nights and we played two tough games, so right now I am just deciding what to do with the boys on our day off. It's always a guessing game, you want the boys to be loose but you don't want them to get tired out from practicing too much so we will see how the day goes yet.

Whiffen is playing outstanding! he is deffinantly giving Kyle a run for his job. AJ has an outstanding save percentage right now while Kyle is having a hard time to stay above .900%. I watched most of the tryouts and from what I saw it looked like Kyle got out performed by not only AJ, but a few others that were let go. Any chance Kyle could be on the move any time soon?

Hopefully AJ Whiffen will continue with his tremendous goaltending skills and bring the Weyburn team to another Royal Bank Cup Win!!!!
