Mixed Results On Weekend

The Weyburn Red Wings defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 3-2 on Saturday night in Wilcox. Michael Seib, Josh Bray and Eric Calibaba with the winner scored for the Wings. Michael Bunting and Bryan Hull replied for the Hounds. Kyle McConnell and Brittan Kuhlman split the goaltending duties for the Wings while Antoine Desrosiers went the distance for the Hounds. No other details were immediately available.

On Sunday night the Wings motored down to Estevan where the Bruins scored 21 seconds into the game and never looked back skating away with a 4-1 decision. Payden Benning scored two goals for the Bruins who also got goals from Riley Tetrault and Niko Grose. Chad Filteau chipped in with two assists for the Bruins with Brennan Wrigley, Vincent Scott and Garrett Lasko adding assists. Ian Lazar scored the long Red Wing goal with a long wrist shot from the point that fooled Bruins goaltender Guillaume Perusse. Luke Johnson assisted on the goal. Perusse went the distance for the Bruins stopping 19 of 20 shots. Ryan Simms started for the Wings in goal and stopped 12 of 14 shots in 30 minutes of play. AJ Whiffen played the second half in goal for the Wings and made 17 saves.

This concludes the preseason for the Red Wings and some tough decisions lie ahead for the coaching staff to get down the roster size. The Wings open up the season in Yorkton on Friday night. The Terriers return to Weyburn for the Wings opener on Saturday September 15. Season ticket holders are reminded to pick up there tickets this week to avoid the possibility of having your seats available to others to purchase.
