Wings Lose Heartbreaker!

The Weyburn Red Wings completed a three game northern road trip tonight in Humboldt and were on the wrong end of a 4-2 final. Evan Bryksa put the Broncos on the board two minutes into the game assisted by Laurent Benjamin and Russ Nielsen. The Broncos took a 2-0 lead at the 6:15 mark of the second period as Tory Allan scored his first of two goals on the night with assists going to Dane Lindskog and Steven Schroeder. The Wings would get one back later in the second as Torrey Lindsay picked up his 6th goal of the season from Stephen Simms and Nick Needham. The Wings were able to tie the game up on another power play opportunity with 3:33 to go in the third period as Stephen Simms picked up the goal from Kyle Haines and Preston Shupe. It appeared that overtime may be on the horizon until two minutes later when Cory Knaus picked up an unassisted goal to regain the lead for the Broncos. Allan added an empty net goal from Matthew Kirzinger and Schroeder to seal the victory for Humboldt. Andrew Bodnarchuk got the win for the Broncos as he made 25 saves. Kyle McConnell made 35 saves in the Weyburn net. The Broncos improved to 8-2-0-0 with the win. The Red Wings record falls to 6-5-0-1. The Wings have a one point lead on the Bruins for second place but the Bruins have two games in hand. For the third consecutive night a Red Wing player was ejected for checking from behind as Craig Cornelsen was ejected tonight in the first period.

In Estevan, the Bruins demolished the last place Notre Dame Hounds 9-3. Brody Haygarth had two goals to pace the Bruins. Kyle Stroh, Payden Benning, Niko Grose, Vincein Scott, Chad Filteau, Riley Tetreault and Kyle Garagan also scored for the Bruins. Kyle Ermel, Grose, Benning, Scott, Filteau, Garagan and Tetreault all had two point nights for the Bruins. Rylan Schwartz scored twice for the Hounds with Grayson Brown also adding a goal. Eddie Gale and Steven Robinson each had two assists in the losing effort. Karsten Felske made the start for the Bruins making 26 saves. Andre Guay started for the Hounds and only managed to stop 10 of 15 shots he faced. Antoine Desrosiers went the rest of the way and made 24 saves. The Bruins are now only one point back of the Wings as they improve to 6-4-0-0. The Hounds fall to 2-10-0-0.

There is only one game in the SJHL on Monday night as the Bruins will head to Notre Dame for the second half of the home and home.

Sunday's Three Stars:

1. Brody Haygarth - Estevan Bruins (2 goals)
2. Tory Allan - Humboldt Broncos (2 goals)
3. Stephen Simms - Weyburn Red Wings (goal and an assist)

The Wings return to action on Friday night when the Bruins come to town. The Wings then return to Estevan on Saturday night. This should be a good measuring stick for the two rivals to see how they stack up.
