News Shorts and Other Things that Come to Mind.

* The Nipawin Hawks have acquired defenseman Riel Thomson from the Flin Flon Bombers. Thomson will add experience and grit to the Hawks blueline.

* The Ice Wolves have recently traded away goaltender Dallas Ungarian to the Maritime League and defenseman Josh Kaliel to the AJHL.

* Jared Smale continues to sit at home in Edmonton as the Red Wings are waiting for the right deal for the 20 year old forward.

* Nipawin Hawks goaltender Danny Gagne has received a five game suspension for a fracas with the fans in Estevan. Although I do not condone Gagne's actions, I am not surprised that this happened in Estevan. Enough said.

* In case you missed it, Dylan Lawrence, who played a couple of games for the Wings, was recently dealt to the Dauphin Kings.

* This is a recording. The Notre Dame Hounds really need some goaltending help. Could they be calling the Terriers regarding the availability of Mark Currie?

* For anyone whoever browses the SJHL fan forum, I am sure you have seen the infamous posts of a guy that calls himself Stars123. This week he was quiet until the Stars won there second game in nine contests. All of a sudden the rest of the league better watch out for the Stars. Whatever buddy. I will make the bold early season prediction that your team will not even be in the postseason. Take that to the bank. (This is also the same guy who said two seasons ago that the Stars had the best 23 players in Canada or something along that line - they lost the league final to the Terriers.). I should point out that I do have the utmost respect for head coach Gary Clark and the Stars organization but can't stand the baseless ramblings of Stars123. Speaking of ranting and rambling, moving on .........

* The Seattle Thunderbirds are back to having four 20 year olds. It is expected that Andre Herman and Ian McKenzie are battling for one spot. Is there a chance we could see McKenzie, a Goodwater native, in red and white this season? I guess we will have to wait and see.

* It is nice to see another Weyburn product playing in the WHL this season as well. Young Tyler Penny is playing for the Red Deer Rebels, one of the WHL's most respected franchises. Former NHL head coach Brian Sutter is the head coach taking over for brother Brent, who is now the head coach of the New Jersey Devils.

* Way to go Riders on the big win on Saturday. The rest of the schedule looks promising for a good run and home playoff game. I swear to God that every Rider game I go to I run into at least 50 people from Weyburn. Multiply that by the number of people sitting in other sections of the stadium and there is no doubt that we have the Rider Pride Weyburnites. Hope to see all you Rider Priders at the Red Wing game tomorrow night.
