SJHL Tuesday Roundup!

There were games on three fronts in the SJHL tonight.

We will start in Estevan where the Bruins were battling the visiting La Ronge Ice Wolves. The Bruins rallied late in this game with Kyle Ermel scoring with 43 seconds remaining in the third to force overtime. However, the Ice Wolves would be victorious as Ken Neufeld, with a rare goal for himself, got the overtime winner just 41 seconds into the extra frame. David Lawrence scored twice for the Ice Wolves while Jordie Johnston added a single. Jarrid Dowhay and Calvin Fiddler each had two assists for the Wolves. Vincein Scott and Brennen Wrigley also scored for Estevan. Kyle Stroh added two assists for the Bruins as the Vibank product continues to pile up the points. Final shots were not in at the time of writing but I can tell you that Jonathan Jobin was in goal for the Wolves while Guillaume Perusse made his third consecutive start for the Bruins. The Ice Wolves move to the .500 mark and leap frog Melfort for fourth in the Itech as they are now 6-6-1-0. The Bruins pick up a point and now have a two point lead on second place Weyburn as they move to 8-4-2-0.

In North Battleford, the Stars put up a valiant fight as they trailed 2-0 late in the third before Makstr Lacoursiere and Nick Kalnicki (with the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker)scored to force overtime. The Terriers however were able to pick up two points as they won in a shootout. Bryan Hull scored two goals for the Terriers while Carter Smith, Jock Sutter and Kevin Stringfellow all adding assists. Jordan Pawelec and Stringfellow had the Terriers goals in the shootout. Brian Sydiaha, Richard Cameron, Barrett Penner and Ryan Scheafer all had assists for the Stars. Nickolaus Dvorak scored in the shootout. Lynden Sammartino picks up the win as he made 24 saves. Ryan Kerpan made 29 saves for the Stars. The Terriers improve to 6-5-1-2 with the win. The Stars pick up a point and are now 2-10-1-1.

The Humboldt Broncos took advantage of an undisciplined Flin Flon Bombers team in the third period as they outshot the Broncos 23-3 in the period and scored four - yes four power play goals in the third. The Broncos finished the night 5/12 on the power play. Laurent Benjamin had two goals and an assist to lead the way for the Broncos. Russ Nielsen and Jordan Schindel each had a goal and an assist. Steven Schroeder and Mitchell Strech also scored for Humboldt. Reid MacLeod had a three point night for the Bombers as he had two goals and an assist. Dustyn Clegg also scored for the Bombers while Pierre - Luc Boucher added two assists to add to his league leading totals. Carsen Chubak was under siege - especially in the final period as the made 37 saves. Taylor Nelson was not overly busy in the Humboldt goal after the first period. He made 16 saves on 19 shots.

Tonight's Three Stars:
1. Laurent Benjamin - Humboldt Broncos (2 goals, 1 assist)
2. David Lawrence - La Ronge Ice Wolves (2 early goals to give Ice Wolves some early spark)
3. Bryan Hull - Yorkton Terriers (fitting in nice as he scores both Terrier goals in regulation)

Honorable Mention - Ryan Kerpan - Battlefords North Stars (good performance by rookie goaltender in shootout loss)

Tomorrow in the SJ: The Wings return to action on home ice as they host the La Ronge Ice Wolves at the Colosseum. Game time as always is 7:30. Elsewhere tomorrow night: Humboldt @ Melville; Yorkton @ Kindersley; and Notre Dame @ Melfort.
