Sory but I just read the comment about local players don't win RBC Cups.
I am going to assume that comment was written by one of the NFLD.folks as it came in regards to a comment about giving the Erickson kid a chance to play as he is a local player. As well as the fact that the votes for NFLD players vs. all other players are 488 to 71 Dah!
My comment is that if you knew anything about the Weyburn Red Wings you would be ashamed of making that comment.
Because the Red Wings have won (2) RBC/ Centennial Cup Championships and have been involved in at least 4 other Championship tournaments since 1984.
To name just a few of the local talent that have Championship Rings here they are Spencer,Schneider,Corrigan,Anderson,Arndt,Evans,Liljord,Vertefeuille,Haines and their are numerous more that played on the teams that did not win the RBC Championship game in the four other years and I don't remember any from NFLD. nor do I ever remember in my 50 years on this earth a team from NFLD ever playing in a Championship game. Not to pick on NFLD. because I am sure it is a beautiful country and the three boys we have playing here now are decent players, but given the chance many local kids can compete at the same level "if given the chance".
Just to digress a little in regards to A.J. Whiffen just so you don't all go crazy over what you think about his talents. Two of his wins are against North Battleford who have only won 2 games this season and lets not forget about the game in Weyburn when we were winning 2 nothing against Melville and shortly after A.J. was given the hook.
That can happen to anyone I know , but your comments sound like you have forgotten about reality.
I wish the Red Wings could get you all to send a cheque for a season ticket there about $350. each like we all do, then all your comments might mean something and you might actually know what your talking about.

Lets just forget this tread! I think you got the wrong idea was was said and it is was meant to knock any other players. Expecially the locals. I support the whole Redwing team not just certain players because it takes a whole team to win.The community of Weyburn provides great support the the Redwings. We are fans who are just learning so dont be upset.

i didnt mean that locals cant play. just that if a local isnt as good as someone outside the area, why would you play them?, and why pick on whiffen? take a look at his stats? they dont lie?

I agree
In no way were my comments made to pick on A.J. Whiffen, they were just mere facts to let you come back down to earth. He's had his good games as well as his bad.
Every player on our team has had good and bad games, thats hockey.
Hockey is a team sport and wins and losses are decided by the team not individuals.
I agree to let it go and Go Wings Go!

The comment about using local players wasn't geared towards any player. The comment was made because reality, in most cases, dictate that there is not enough local players with the necessary skills to play at this level. Especially, in small towns. Like most teams that compete at a high level, a handful of local players make the cut and the rest usually come from elswhere. I am from NL and guess what, there is a senior hockey team in my community. There are a total of seven Sr teams across the province and every one of these teams carry a handful of local players and the rest come from elsewhere. That is how competeive hockey operates. It's the nature of the beast. If you want to put bums in the seats and keep them there then you have to be able to compete. And I would be willing to bet that if you check the rosters of the teams that won the 2 RBC rings and the other championships that the Wings competed in, you would find only a handful of local players, with the rest of the team coming from elsewhere. The Wings do have open tryouts and the "local players get their chance" to compete. And most of them "don't cut the Mustard" just like everywhere else across this country and the USA. That's the "reality" of high competative hockey. And I know what I am talking about because I have been around it long enough to know. As for Whiffen he may have been on the losing end of a couple of games but in all the games he has played, except one, he was listed as a Star or received Honourable mention. The losses were not due to his lack of play. You don't need to see the game if you can read about it to know what you are talking about.

Well I do think that is unfair that Whiffen fans like to gang up on everyone else when things that are said that may not go AJ's way. I have no problem with him having so many supporters, but dont take offense to people saying maybe Erickson should get a chance to show what he has. O ya there is a new pole up with AJ in it you better vote another couple houndred times to make sure he wins

If only some of our other players had the backing and support like Whiffen has back in Newfoundland it would be so much better for the organization. I say keep supporting your guy. Maybe some of the people in Weyburn could get off their ass and vote for some of the Weyburn guys instead of bashing someone in another province across the country for supporting their guy. I would love if we could field 20 local players on the team every year and have the team competitive, but the fact is, that is not logistically possible based on the talent pool. So far I haven't seen Whiffen fans ripping our players, just supporting their own. Nothing wrong with that in my books.

Thank You for that comment!! We do support NL players but we are also a Redwing fan which means we support all the players and I know that's how all the NL fans feel.So what we support our own, dont you support yours? At least your there to see the games we cant so we show our support here. I dont think we done anything wrong. Keep up the good work Redwings!!
