Terriers Take Chomp Out of Wolves!

The Yorkton Terriers started a mini two game road trip tonight on a positive tonight as they dumped the La Ronge Ice Wolves 6-2. The Terriers got a three point night from defensman Michael Trebish (1 goal, 2 assists) to pace the scoring for the Terriers. Kyle Block added a goal and an assist. Travis Coghill, Kirk Byzcynzki, Bryan Hull and Alfie Bear also scored for the Terriers. who led 2-1 and 4-2 by periods. Carter Smith chipped in with two assists on the night. Calvin Fiddler and Bruno-Pier Gosselin scored for the Wolves. Jarrid Dowhay had a pair of assists. It was a fight filled final minute of the game as the Ice Wolves frustrations boiled over. In the end four players were ejected: Evan Neibrandt of the Terriers and Calvin Fiddler, Joseph Cook and Dustin Stevenson of the Ice Wolves. Lynden Sammartino was strong between the pipes for the Terriers as he made 29 saves. Jonathan Jobin had an uncharacteristic tough night as he allowed 6 goals on 34 shots. The Terriers improved to 4-4-1-2 with the win and are now two points back of the Red Wings with a game in hand for third place. They play that game in hand tomorrow night. The Ice Wolves drop to 4-6-1-0 and are fifth in the Itech, one point back of the Melfort Mustangs.

In other news around the league.............

Battlefords Stars head coach Gary Clark has been suspended one game for being ejected from a game against Weyburn on Saturday night. The Stars have also been fined $300 for failing to properly videotape the game. (or did the tape mysteriously disappear?) Clark will miss the Stars game on October 12.

Thomas Williams of the Notre Dame Hounds has been suspended three games for receiving a match penalty for checking from behind in a game versus Estevan on Sunday night. Williams has already served one game and will miss games against Melville on Wednesday and Friday.

Both the Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires have been fined $400 each for violating the staged fight rule in a game played in Melville on Saturday night. (I have issues with this rule but that is for another article.)

Wednesday night in the SJ: Notre Dame @ Melville; Yorkton @ Humboldt; Flin Flon @ Melfort
