Coach McMillan reflects on the weekend

Troy Kramm: What went wrong versus the Melville Millionaires on Friday?
Dwight McMillan: Well we ran into a good hockey team and we made a few too many mental mistakes and quit playing a physical game.

TK :How pleased were you that the boys fought back to tie the game at five with under a minute left in the third?
DM: I thought we played hard and we deserved to win a game like that. Again we made those mental mistakes and they took advantage of them.

TK: Are you worried about playing the Notre Dame Hounds tomorrow knowing they had a hard weekend and will be hungry for a win?
DM: No I am not worried at all, just cautious. We just have to be prepared and I hope to have everyone ready for the game.

TK: How do you feel AJ Whiffen played during his first home game apperance?
DM: Well, Whiffen got caught on his first goal and had to deal with a lot of pressure at home against a first place team. It was a good learning experience for him and he will fight back from it, that is just the kind of player he is. He just wasn’t ready for that type of action.

The stats don’t tell the truth though. In each game a player has to be assessed by his performance on the ice and not on how his stats are. If you went strictly by stats all the time you would take all the coaching out of the game. I am not a stats man and I never have been. I think stats are for losers.

TK: Who will be the Red Wings starting goalie verus Notre Dame?
DM: Oh we haven’t made our decision on that one just yet, we will make that decision tomorrow.
