What the Dman of the Week has to say.

I had a chat with Stephen Simms before the afternoon skate yesterday to see what he thought about his SJHL honours and the upcoming games this weekend.

TK: How do you feel after being acknowledged as the SJHL defenceman of the week?
Simms: It’s a great honour. I felt I had a pretty good week offensively, it’s just too bad that we couldn't get a few more wins this week, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.

TK: You really stepped it up during the weekend and racked up some points, is their anything you have changed in your game lately that has helped out your offence?
Simms: I have been trying to look for a clear lane. If it's clear I try to shoot the puck. I have been definitely trying to shoot the puck more, but if the lane isn’t clear I just try to look for the best pass and try to make it.

TK: Who was the toughest team you faced during the weekend?
Simms: Definitely Humbolt. They are always tough to play at home, they always play well as a team. We outplayed them for most of the game and if it wasn’t for a bad goal that we gave up during the last minute of the game we could have taken them.

TK: With these few days off are you excited to get back on the ice and take on your rivals the Estevan Bruins?
Simms: Definitely, It should be a fun weekend. We always have a hard hitting game when we play the Bruins.
TK: Do you prepare differently when you face a team like the Bruins?
Simms: I think you have to when you face a rival like that. You have to be more mentally prepared and just be ready for whatever goes on.

TK: Quick prediction, What will the score be in the games on Friday and Saturday?

Simms: The first game at home will be 5-2 for us and in Estevan it might be a little closer, I am going to say 4-3 for us in overtime.
