The Weyburn Red Wings and Estevan Bruins met for the first time this season and the Wings were gracious hosts as the Bruins skate away with a 3-2 overtime victory on Friday night. Kealin Wong was the hero for Estevan as he scored 1:38 into overtime on a pass from Trevor Mock to give the Bruins the two points. Wong also had an assist in the game. The Bruins led 2-0 after two periods on goals from Kyle Stroh and Kyle Garagan before the Wings battled back with 2 goals in 32 seconds early in the third period. Brayden Nargang, with his fifth of the season and Nick Needham with his first SJHL goal scored for the Wings. Stephen Simms and Josh Bray added assists. Guillaume Perusse picked up the win for the Bruins making 27 saves. AJ Whiffen stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced in the Weyburn goal. The Bruins improve to 8-4-0-0 with the win which moves them two points ahead of the Red Wings for second place. The Wings drop to 6-5-1-1 with the overtime loss and pick up one point in the standings. To be honest, not a great pace to this game tonight although the excitement returned to the Colosseum after the two third period goals. The two teams go right back at it tomorrow night in Estevan. The Wings have to get more creative offensively and lay the body in the small rink tomorrow night if they want to be successful. Hope to see a large contingent from Weyburn tomorrow night to cheer on the guys.
Up the highway in Wilcox, the Melville Millionaires swept a home and home with the Notre Dame Hounds as they won 5-1 tonight. This follows a 3-1 victory in Melville on Wednesday. Kale Dolinski was the offensive star for Melville tonight as he had two goals and an assist in only his second game back after returning from an injury. Daniel Hope added a goal and an assist for the Mils who also got singles from Aaron Decorby and Curtis Beech. Defenseman Derek Edwards added a pair of assists for Melville. Chris Bratina had the lone goal for the Hounds. Travis Bosch got the start for Melville and made 30 saves. Mark Currie stopped 32 of the 37 shots he faced in the Hounds goal. With the win, the Millionaires improve to 10-1-0-0. The Hounds are now a dismal 2-13-0-0 as they seem to have lost their scoring touch all of a sudden.
Up in Yorkton, the Terriers won a hard fought game over the Melfort Mustangs 3-2. Bryan Hull picked up the winning goal for the Terriers in the third period. Derek Serdachny and Logan Dew also scored for the Terriers. The Terrier defenseman figured prominently on the scoresheet tonight as Greg Coburn, Jordan Pawelec, Michael Trebish and Jock Sutter all added assists. Tommy Brown had a goal and an assist for the Mustangs. Jordan Morgan had the other goal for Melfort. Lynden Sammartino made 28 saves in the Yorkton goal to preserve the victory. Jesse Trach got the start for Melfort tonight and stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced. With the win, the Terriers are now 5-5-1-2 for 13 points, one back of third place Weyburn. The Mustangs drop to 5-6-0-0.
The winning streak ended tonight for the Flin Flon Bombers as they were hammered 5-2 by the Kindersley Klippers. Jeremy Beller had two goals to lead the Klippers. Casey Rempel added a goal and an assist. Jerrett Bicknell and Jonathan Redlick also scored for Kindersley. Pierre - Luc Boucher and Dustyn Clegg replied for the Bombers. Ryan Nieszner picked up the win between the pipes for Kindersley as he made 27 saves. Carsen Chubak stopped 27 of 32 shots he faced in the Flin Flon goal. The Klippers improve to 6-3-0-0 and are one point back of Yorkton for fourth in the Sherwood. However, the Klippers have four games in hand on both the Red Wings and Terriers. The Bombers drop to 6-4-0-1 with the loss.
Finally, in Nipawin, the Hawks scored three first period power play goals on their way to a 4-3 win over the Battlefords Stars. Dean Prpick was on fire for the Hawks tonight as he had a goal and three assists. Adam Schwark added a goal and an assist for the Hawks. Kyle Cowan and Mike Rey had singles while Andrew Georgeson chipped in with two assists. The Stars got two goals from Jason Walker and two assists from Nick Kalnicki in the loss. Nickolaus Dvorak also scored for the Stars. Derek Kleinsteuber picks up the win for Nipawin as he made 27 saves. Ryan Kerpan stopped 30 of 34 shots he faced, including 18 saves in the first period. The Hawks improve to 7-3-0-1 on the season. The Stars drop to 2-9-1-0 and remain firmly entrenched in the Itech basement much to the chagrin of Stars123.

Other news:
Joseph Cook of the La Ronge Ice Wolves has been handed a five game suspension by league disciplinarian Laury Ryan for his actions in a game versus the Yorkton Terriers on Wednesday night. His teammate Dustin Stevenson has also been suspended for two games as a result of the multi-fight incident which was deemed to have been initiated by the Ice Wolves. The Ice Wolves were also fined $600 as a result of the incident.
Trades - The Estevan Bruins acquired Liam Brennan from Alberni Valley of the BCHL for futures. Brennan made his Bruins debut tonight versus the Wings.
Meanwhile, La Ronge has dealt disgruntled forward Jori Dean to the Canmore Eagles of the AJHL for futures (or as most of us know - cash). Dean was dealt to the Ice Wolves over the summer from the Notre Dame Hounds but made it clear to Bob Beatty after the deal that he would not be reporting to La Ronge. In my opinion, it is a privilege - not a right - to play junior hockey. You should go where you are supposed to go, not dictate where you want to play. I'm glad that Bob made this kid sit for awhile.

Anyone else question the fact that we had our biggest awkward skating defenseman on the ice during 4 on 4 in OT. Hate to second guess Mac but I disagreed with that player personnel decision at that point in the game.
Wings really need to work on the PP.One of the worst PP's in the league.You work harder when you have the PP because you have the advantage.PP is not the time to sit back and relax.
Ok! I find that comment really AWKWARD! I question why Mac would would play our 20 year olds 30-35 minutes a game when they seem to be struggling...Aren't our 20 year olds supposed to be leaders at ALL TIMES?!? If we don't give our 19 year olds an opportunity to play in those situations how can we expect them to be leaders next season!??! Also, the game of hockey works on a chain of reactions... if the winger would have been on his man from the beginning, the Estevan defensemen wouldn't have had the opportunity to walk in and score the winning goal leaving that AWKWARD defensemen in that AWKWARD situation... OFTEN, are 2 best defensemen aren't our best defensemen, which shows that everyone has good games and bad games...(check the plus/minus stats) I truly believe that we can't only look at the mistakes from a defensive position! Obviously are powerplay hasn't been affective... Do we need to change the personnel on the pp??

This team is lacking leadership right now. Our captain is playing worse than he did in his rookie year, we have a 20 year old goaltender who is being outplayed by an 18 year old and our other 20 year old forward skates half assed and gives 75% effort at the best of times so I do not disagree with you. However, I still feel the wrong combination was out on the ice to create an AWKWARD situation in overtime. Sorry to pinpoint one player, I should no better. At the end of the day everyone on this team needs to look in the mirror and decide whether putting the effort out on the ice and working towards their hockey future is more important than when the next piss up is going to be.
I agree, that it wasn't necessarily the best combination to have on the ice... some of our defensemen are very defensive and do not necessarily excell in offensive situations... this can only improve with experience... With experience comes confidence.

Great comments on the game. I agree the wings have the worst PP in the league. I thought at this level of hockey if things weren't working (vets) the coaches aren't afraid to change things up. The rookies are playing their hearts out when they get the chance so why not make the vets sweat a bit. We are losing anyway, start giving the PP and PK positions to the rookies and see what they can do with it. It might light a few fires.

I would just like to say that Lucas Faganely from Port Hope is not reporting to the Red Wings camp and has been taken off the Red Wings roster on the website.
So what we got for defence is how its going to stay for now.

What we need are more 20 year olds and Brad Johnston back - Melville won on that trade. Not sure what the comment about "the next piss up" means - what are you implying? There are some players who are logging alot of ice and by the end of the game, they are running out of gas. We have too much inexperience on our team and too many 19 years olds and that's the bottom line. Every player does have good games and bad - their human. Maybe we need to stand by our team and support them better instead of pointing fingers of who did what wrong.
Does anyone else agree that Red Wing Fans are the biggest ban wagon jumpers in the league. People who write on this blog should support are boys and not cut them down considering half these negative fans have never played Jr. hockey in there life and dont know a thing about the game. People who are cutting down 18, 19 and 20 year old young men should really get a life when there out there trying there hardest and making a differnce in the community.
PS The Red Wings Captain is one of the best players and leaders in the league.

I think the problem with this team is our players who have came back from the western hockey league thinking they are bigger than the SJHL. This dynamic duo of ex whl'ers is the cancer of this team. Once we get rid of them the wings will be unstopable!
The two players you refer to have probably been two of our best offensive producers. I will disagree with you on that comment.
Do you have any backing to this claim anonymous? I find you claim to be BS and just made to stir the you know what.
