Terriers Outduel Klippers!

The Yorkton Terriers were looking for the second win in two nights as they hosted the Kindersley Klippers on Wednesday night. The Terriers would do just that as they overcame a 3-2 first period deficit to defeat the Klippers 4-3. Kyle Block scored the winning goal for the Terriers with less than seven minutes to play in the third period. Kirk Bycyzynski, Cody Zubko and Kevin Stringfellow also scored for the Terriers. The scoring was spread around tonight for Yorkton as Logan Dew, Evan Neibrandt, Travis Coghill, Derek Serdachny, Chris Cook and Derek Derkach all added assists.

Matt Sawa (pictured) scored twice for the Klippers while Travis Eggum added a single. Kalib Thunderchief, Jerrett Bicknell, Jayde Dunser, Kirk Pearce and Jeremy Beller added assists. Terriers forward Derek Serdachny was assessed a five minute major for checking from behind and a game misconduct in the third period. Lynden Sammartino was pulled after allowing three goals on 11 shots in the first 14 minutes of the first period. Joel Danyluk played the rest of the first before Sammartino came back in much more focused and made 21 saves the rest of the say without allowing a goal. It was another tough night for Klippers starter Ryan Nieszner who allowed four goals on only 19 shots. The Klippers remain six points back of the Red Wings for first in the Sherwood. The Terriers have now closed within five points of the Klippers and Millionaires and have a three point advantage over the fifth place Estevan Bruins.

In Melville, the Millionaires were hosting the Battlefords North Stars and for the second straight night the Stars would lose by a score of 4-0. It was the Dion Campbell (pictured left) show in Melville tonight as the Mils veteran had one goal and three assists on the night. Scott Hennings added a goal and an assist for the Mils. Levi Lind and Brad Johnston also scored for Melville. Also getting assists were Dan Hope, Curtis Beech, Jordan Wilson and Kale Dolinski. Travis Bosch picked up the shutout as he made 23 saves on the evening. Adrien Lemay stopped 24 of 28 shots for the loss.

In Estevan, the Bruins would score first but that was all they would get after being dumped 4-1 by the Melfort Mustangs. Taylor Watt (pictured left) had two goals and an assist to lead the Mustangs. Ryan Gareau and Mike Kirby also scored for Melfort. Donavon Chow, Clint Olson, Cam Oliphant and Jason Walker all added assists. Kealin Wong had the lone Bruins goal with the assist going to Payden Benning. Benning had a rough night as he received a two minute minor for cross checking, a ten minute misconduct and a game misconduct late in the second period. Ilia Ejov had another strong start in goal for the Mustangs as made 25 saves. David Ritz got the start for the Bruins against his former team and was chased just over 17 minutes in after allowing three goals. It should be noted however that Ritz faced a remarkable 21 shots in those 17 minutes. It should be known though that nobody in the league inflates their shot totals more than the crew in Estevan. Karsten Felske came in on the relief effort and stopped 15 shots the rest of the way.

It was lucky number 13 in a row for the Humboldt Broncos tonight as they defeated the Nipawin Hawks 5-3. Shawn Hunter (left) scored twice for the Broncos while Eddie Gale had a goal and an assist. Scott Schroeder and Brady Wacker also scored for Humboldt. Matthew Kirzinger added two assists for the Broncos with other assists going to Dane Lindskog, Mitchell Stretch, Voldy Dashko, Tory Allan and goaltender Andrew Bodnarchuk.

Steve Mason had a goal and an assist for the Hawks. Jordon Miller and Cody Wutzke also scored for Nipawin. Torrie Dyck, Blair Toms and Taylor Thiessen added assists. Bodnarchuk made 22 saves for Humboldt as he gave Taylor Nelson the night off. Derek Kleinsteuber started for the Hawks and stopped 22 of 26 shots in 40 minutes of action before leaving in favor of Dan DiCamillo who allowed one goal on nine shots in the third period.
