All Star selection aftermath!

We love seeing all the comments on the blog but it is now our turn to voice our opinion. I will go first and I am sure Brad will be online later tonight to voice his displeasure with some of the choices made.

First off I would just like to clear up a couple things. The coaching staff did have Simms, Bray and Whiffen on the voting list. I spoke with Dwight this afternoon to get some of his comments and at his request they will not be published, but I will say that I know for a fact he would have liked to see some changes to that roster. Let's just put it this way, the majority of you are in agreeance with him.

Dwight did mention that this happens every single year. "We try and fix the selection process at the annual league meetings but nothing ever seems to work, we always have guys who undeservedly get left off of the roster." he mentioned.

Now on with the grievances. Personally I felt that Josh Bray should have got the nod for the team. I really like the fact that he totally revamped his game in the off season and has been among the leading Red Wings scorers. When I read the list and didn't see his name I was definitely shocked.(Hopefully he doesn't take this personally and tears the league up in the second half of the season)

As for Whiffen, I might have been one of the only people that wasn't surprised that he didn't make the team. I know he should be there, all you have to do is look at the stats, and if you have been to a few Red Wings games and seen him play then you have a first hand look at why he really is an All Star. He has already made a name for himself this year and at 18 he has plenty of chances to get the rest of the league to pay attention. I think some people might have gave Sammartino the edge since the game is being held in Yorkton and they are celebrating their 35th Anniversary, it's just good for the hometown crowd(unfortunately) .AJ should have the next two years to look forward too, as he has a great chance at being the starting goalie for the Sherwood Conference.

What did I like? Of course seeing Haines and Shupe represent the team is great for Weyburn. Two top notch players from Weyburn named as All Stars, it doesn't get much better than that. Also I am pleased to see Torrey Lindsay make the squad as he was expected to add some offensive jump to the team when he was aquired just before the season started. He has certainly helped the Red Wings become one of the most balanced offenses in the SJHL.

That's all for me, I will let Brad voice his opinion next. Let the comments begin!

If i am not mis-taken i think nargang made the all-star team along with haines, shupe, and lindsay. Troy you must have forgot to mention that, and i wonder how because i think nargang has been our MVP other than whiffin and i dont know how whiffin didn't make the team!

In the north Humboldt is in first place and has six players on the team. Does it seem right that the Red Wings are in 1st place and only have four players (the same amount as Estevan)?

You are right I didn't mention Nargang in my post. I didn't overlook him but personally I just haven't watched him one the ice as much as the other guys.

I do know he is a fantastic player who does deserve to be there though...

I believe Brad might be on here tonight to update the post and give his opinion. He has been crazy busy with work but It will be good to hear what he has to say.

I am extremely shocked that a.j.whiffen did not make the team, when i heard the announcement of the guys who made it i was shocked. How can a guy have so many shutouts and be very young and not make it, does not seem right. Im glad there are 4 going, i do think they all deserve to go, maybe would have picked someone else other than nargang simply because i dont really pay attention to his style of play but im sure he deserves it just like the other boys!!

i think that people should not be mad at the red wings players that were pick for all star game..... poeple should not be so upset at this they should be happy for them and who care's about past points its about the team not about individual stats... for the record torry lindsey deserves every point that wasnt even his mistake in melville and the point was made up from the weekend before in flin flon.... and johnson's point was made up in the humbolt game were he was tied up and had no part in nargang goal but some how recieve a point for it...

The new line of Lindsay, Shupe, and Bly has been playing very well. Thanks for the clarification of why Lindsay got Johnson's assist. It is nice to see justice served. As long as ALL players are treated equal because if they are not then it will ultimately hurt the team.

Please no personal attacks on players or family members!

We would like them to come back on a regular basis and make this a good site for all.

If this continues to happen then we will be forced remove open comments without creating an account.

This has been the best way for us to have people continue to comment but if problems do occur then we will have to make people register so comments cannot remain anonymous

Thanks
