Wings win in shootout versus the Hawks!

Things started off good for the Red Wings as Luke Johnson scored on the powerplay with assists going to Connor Krukowski and Brayden Nargang to take an early 1-0 lead, but less than a minute later, the always dangerous Torrie Dyck scored a goal of his own to tie things up at 1-1.

Goals were hard to come by all night but reigning Rookie of the Month Rhett Bly scored on a pass from Carter Selinger at 6:47 of the second while AJ Whiffen shut the door on all 13 shots he faced in the period to give the Wings a 2-1 lead heading into the third.

Unfortunately though, the Red Wings couldn't keep Torrie Dyck off the score sheet as he scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal only 38 seconds into the third period to tie the game 2-2. That was all for the scoring as the game headed to the extra frame which solved nothing.

The overtime was one I wish I could have been at as it took 18 attempts to put the game winning goal away. Stephen Simms finally put one past Derek Kleinsteuber.to give the Red Wings a 3-2 victory in their first game of their Northern road swing.

Around the SJHL:

Melville took down the Kindersley Klippers by a score of 3-2 to grab a hold of second place in the ever changing Sherwood Conference tonight.

Humbolt won the battle of the newly acquired, but it was a close one. They held on to defeat the Melfort Mustangs who fought hard to pick up a point during the game. The Broncos held a 2-0 lead heading into the third period but Melfort fired home two goals to tie the game and send it to overtime before Scott Schroeder scored to give them a 3-2 win. It could have been much worse if it wasn't for the play of Ilja Ejov who faced 35 shots while his counterpart Taylor Nelson only saw 24 shots directed his way.

And the Flin Flon Bombers (Bombed!) the La Ronge Ice Wolves by beating (and I stress the word BEATING) them 9-2. Flin Flon scored the first seven goals before La Ronge countered with one by their only scoring threat on the night, Jordie Johnston who added another one later to make it, ummm "respectable".

Reid MacLeod added to his SJHL scoring lead by picking up a hat-trick and Pierre-Luc Boucher added a goal and three assists to stay close behind his teammate.

The Weyburn Red Wings next action is tomorrow night versus the Flin Flon Bombers who hopefully used up all their offense on the Ice Wolves.

Brad McNeil will have hopefully returned safe and sound from his work place Christmas party to keep everyone updated on Saturday night.
