Who's on Your All Star Team So Far?

Just for fun, this would be my all star teams for the annual allstar game being played in January in Yorkton. Let me know whether you agree or would tweak things. I have picked two goaltenders, six defenseman, and twelve forwards for each conference. One of the rules is that each team has to be represented by a minimum of one player so that did play a bit into some of my decisions. Here it goes:

Sherwood Conference (bold indicates starters)

Goaltenders (2) - AJ Whiffen (Weyburn) , Lynden Sammartino (Yorkton)

Defenseman (6) - Derek Edwards (Melville), Kyle Haines (Weyburn), Scott Linnell (Kindersley), Kealin Wong (Estevan), Stephen Simms (Weyburn), Michael Trebish (Yorkton)

Forwards (12) - Ryan Sawka (Kindersley), Dion Campbell (Melville), Rylan Schwartz (Notre Dame), Kyle Stroh (Estevan), Payden Benning (Estevan), Brett Leedahl (Kindersley), Jonathan Redlick (Kindersley), Brad Johnston (Melville), Josh Bray (Weyburn), Brayden Nargang (Weyburn), Bryan Hull (Yorkton), Kyle Block (Yorkton)

Itech Conference (starters in bold):

Goaltenders (2) - Taylor Nelson (Humboldt), Ilia Ejov (Melfort)

Defenseman (6) - Tommy Brown (Melfort), Tanner Vandesype (Humboldt), Jesse Lebreton (Battlefords), Tyler Karst (La Ronge), Russ Nielsen (Humboldt), Riley Clark (Melfort)

Forwards (12) - Jordie Johnston (La Ronge), Reid MacLeod (Flin Flon), Pierre - Luc Boucher (Flin Flon), Dennis Kubat (Flin Flon), Laurent Benjamin (Humboldt), Jordan Schindel (Humboldt), Jarrid Dowhay (La Ronge), Bruno - Pier Gosselin (La Ronge), Taylor Watt (Melfort), Clint Olson (Melfort), Torrie Dyck (Nipawin), Brent Ottmann (Nipawin)

Injury replacements:

Sherwood:

Goaltender: Kyle Cantlon (Melville)
Defense: Greg Coburn (Yorkton), Connor Krukowski (Weyburn)
Forwards: Matt Sawa (Kindersley), Levi Lind (Melville), Preston Shupe (Weyburn)

Itech:

Goaltender: Jonathan Jobin (La Ronge)
Defensemen: Blair Toms (Nipawin), Brady Wacker (Humboldt)
Forwards: Steven Schroeder (Humboldt), Matt Hill (Melfort), Dustyn Clegg (Flin Flon)

The only player who I would not have picked for the team but had to by default was Lebreton. That being said I think he is a good young defenseman and has a bright future. I think Toms will miss out on the team because of the rule that every team must have representation.
Of course this is all my own opinion and counts for nothing other than something to compare to once the actual all stars are named.

Brad I don't mind your all star picks but the redwing's manager and coaches messed up when they did not make a deal for Vandesype and Gale. Vandesype is the best 2 way d-man in this league and Gale is one of the top forwards. They should have traded Simms for Vandesype because Sims has been put on a pedestal too long by the weyburn coaching staff and makes two many mistakes defensively in fact he should likely be playing foward. He is horrible from the offensive blue line back but yet our assistant coach keeps playing him mistake after mistake. They have said we need a scoring forward and Gale was the guy. The trades we have made are not going to put us over the top and maybe its time for the executive to start looking for three new guys in charge.

Wow,

Although I agree with you regarding the fact that Vandesype and Gale would have been great assets to the team and I know for a fact our management team made an offer, the fact of the manner is there are six - eight teams in this league as well as a few in the MJHL, AJHL and BCHL that were interested in these same two players. Who is to say the Hounds were interested in Simms? Perhaps the Humboldt offer is what they were looking for?
I don't know but I think the fact our team sits in first place in their division with one twenty year old and an eighteen year old starting goaltender is pretty damn good Mr. Anonymous. I would take our management team over any other in this league anyday and I hope the Red Wing executive agrees with that. Have a nice day!

with regards to the first comment posted... are you kidding me? vandesype is just as bad as simms is in the def zone... thats why we call them "offensive defenceman", and to have the top 2 in the sjhl on the same team would be a great asset but not quite realistic... as for the coaching staff putting him on a pedestal... i know myself this guy has been contacted by over 10 div 1 schools... he has to be doing something right...

If Chad Anderson couldn't get a Div. 1 scholarship there's no way Simms will

simms was offered one this past summer, but didnt take it because he wanted to come back and help the wings win the RBC!

Comments are looking good, good to see some discussion on here just keep it clean and keep it coming.

I liked the teams Brad, I would have made a few changes but its because I have personal preferences, it didn't deal with the stats.

When do the official teams come out Brad?

First of all guys this was not intended to be a pick on Stephen Simms thread. Good Lord. I hope you are kids posting anonymously and not grown adults. Grow up and if you want to bash a 19 year old junior player with this kind of garbage at least grow a set and post your name.

Troy - That is the point of thread - the all stars. Thanks for bringing the attention back to that. As for the date the teams are announced, I would suspect it will be right after the Christmas break.

You are a complete fool to ask for three new men in charged. I played 2 seasons under Dwight, Darcy and Ron. Won the RBC and did learn a heck of a lot about hockey and about life. If you are sick and tired of winning seasons, championships and young teenagers moving on as better people then you are in the wrong place. He has no reason to defend himself as he has done more than enough for the organization and the community as a whole but I feel obliged to defend him. The winning tradition is there because of Dwight and Ron. Players want to play in Weyburn because of them. Best coach I could of ever asked for and a great man.

P.S. Brad and Troy, Heck of a job setting up and updating the blog. I wish I could of had something like this when I played.

Thanks so much for your comments on this Darryl. It's nice to have a former player weigh-in on the situation. I guess my final remarks to poster #1 are there are 11 other teams in this league who would love to have Stephen Simms on the roster. Sounds like some sour grapes to me.
And these three men will be the brains behind the Weyburn Red Wings organization until the day they say they don't want to do it anymore. If you even knew the sacrifices Dwight, Ron and Darcy have put up over the years and the time they commit to the franchise I would hope your tone would change.

simms is the best skater and has the hardest shot on the team... give him more ice!!

i agree with darryl, you cant ask for better coaching and management as what we have now. They bring so much experience and commitment to this organization. whoever the idiot was that wrote the first comment needs to actually learn a few things about the game before posting sh$t like that. go simms!

I'm kind of offended by some of the stuff that comes out on this blog. I'm sure that everyone writing is cheering for the same team, but the bashing of players and then to one another is offensive and makes it hard to believe we're on the same side. Even at some of the games when our own fans holler at our own players to "get off the ice"...I know that we all have a right to an oppinion and pay our way at the gate, but really some like to go and just cheer the boys on.
