Wednesday Wrap!

There were three games played on Wednesday night in the SJHL.

Starting in Estevan, the Bruins were hosting the reeling Nipawin Hawks and took advantage of a frustrated squad as they thumped the Hawks 7-1. Kyle Stroh scored twice and added an assist to lead the Bruins to victory. Kyle Ermel, Riley Tetreault, Payden Benning, Davis Brown and Trevor Mock also scored for the Bruins. Benning added three assists for the Bruins whileKealin Wong, Riley Hughes and Kyle Garagan each contributed two assists. Torrie Dyck, one of the few bright spots as of late in Nipawin, scored the Hawks lone goal. Taylor Thiessen and Kyle Cowan assisted on the goal. Karsten Felske picked up the win against his former club as he made 23 saves. Derek Kleinsteuber had a rough night in the Nipawin goal allowing 7 goals on 47 shots. The Bruins improve to 15-13-2-0 and are only one point back of fourth place Yorkton and have a game in hand on the Terriers. The Bruins visit the Terriers on Thursday night. The Hawks fall to 10-14-1-3 and have only won a single game on the road this year.

In Melfort, the Notre Dame Hounds did all they could to try and sneak one by Mustangs goaltender Ilia Ejov, but failed, as they fell 3-0 to the league leading Mustangs. Taylor Watt, John Payne and Jordan Morgan scored for the Mustangs. Colton Graf, Matt Hill, Gary Childerhose, Kyle Fraser, Mike Kirby and Tommy Brown all added assists for the Mustangs. Ejov made 30 saves in the Melfort goal to pick up the shutout. Mark Currie made 33 saves in the Notre Dame goal. The Mustangs are now 21-7-0-1 and lead Humboldt by four points in the Itech. The Broncos do have two games in hand on the Mustangs. The Hounds bring up the rear in the Sherwood with a record of 8-19-1-0. They are 15 points behind fifth place Estevan in the Sherwood standings.

We end the night in La Ronge where the Ice Wolves were hosting the slumping Battlefords North Stars and the Stars took one on the chin as they were throttled 9-2 by the host Wolves. Bruno-Pier Gosselin had a huge night for the Ice Wolves as he scored 4 goals and added an assist. Jordie Johnston moved into second place in the league scoring race with a five assist performance and is threatening the scoring lead which is currently held by Flin Flon forward Reid MacLeod. Brandon Juravinski, a callup for the Ice Wolves largely due to suspensions to Calvin Fiddler and Codie Pederson, scored twice and added an assist. Jarrid Dowhay had a goal and two assists. Tyler Karst and Jesse Bannerman also scored for the Ice Wolves. Dustin Stevenson and Jules Boucher added two assists each for the Ice Wolves. Jason Walker had a goal and an assist for the Stars while Ricky Cey scored the other Battlefords goal. Jonathan Jobin got the win for the Wolves in goal while Adrien Lemay allowed three goals in the first 13:51 of the first period before being pulled in favor of Ryan Kerpan. The Ice Wolves move back into third in the Itech with the win.
