NOVEMBER 18/07

SJHL FORWARD OF THE WEEK

Winner: Pierre-Luc Boucher, Flin Flon Bombers
Highlights: Boucher continued his season long offensive tear last week by leading the Bombers to a pair of victories over some pretty tough competition. Boucher scored two goals and two assists last Wednesday in a win over Kindersley. He also set up a goal on Friday in a victory over Humboldt. The 1987 born Quebec product now has 43-points in 24-games as he challenges teammate Reid MacLeod for an SJHL scoring title.

Runners-up: Reid MacLeod & Dennis Kubat, Flin Flon; Brett Leedahl & Ryan Sawka, Kindersley; Dion Campbell, Melville; Jordie Johnston, La Ronge; Jayde Dunser, Kindersley; Shawn McNulty, Battlefords.

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Winner: Riley Clark, Melfort Mustangs
Highlights: Clark's contribution to the Mustang blueline goes far and above his offensive abilitites; however he was the highest scoring defenseman in the SJHL last week with 2-goals and 1-assist in 2-games. Clark's foot speed allows him to play against many of the opposition's top forwards and his positioning also ranks him amongst the SJHL elite. The Mustangs are 12-0-0-and-1 since October 13th and Clark's play on the back end has been a big reason why.

Runners-up: Tommy Brown & Mike Kirby, Melfort; Jordan Pawelec, Yorkton; Blair Toms, Nipawin.

SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

Winner: AJ Whiffen, Weyburn Red Wings

Highlights; Whiffen, an 18-year-old rookie from Newfoundland, continues to give the Red Wings goaltending well beyond his years. Whiffen won both of his starts on the weekend against the Estevan Bruins, including a shutout victory on Saturday that saw him turn back 39-shots on Saturday. For the week, Whiffen was 2-and-0, 1.00, .972. This season, Whiffen is second to Taylor Nelson for lowest GAA at 2.04 and he also sports a splendid .937-SPCT to go with a 9-2-2-and-1 record.

Runners-up: Matt Weninger, Kindersley; Lynden Sammartino, Yorkton; Ilia Ejov, Melfort; Calvin Bartel, Flin Flon.
