Bruins, Ice Wolves Win on Friday Night!

The Estevan Bruins began a mini two game road trip in Nipawin tonight and skated away with a 3-2 victory over the Hawks. Karsten Felske, starting against his former team, made 45 saves in the Bruins goal to put a stamp on the victory. Kyle Garagan, Brennan Wrigley and Liam Brennan scored for the Bruins with Riley Tetreault, Riley Hughes, Chad Filteau, Davis Brown and Niko Grose all picking up assists. Mike Rey and Colton McDonald, with his first SJHL goal, replied for the Hawks. Blair Toms and Brent Ottmann added assists for Nipawin. Derek Kleinsteuber was not far behind Felske tonight as he stopped 41 Estevan shots. The Bruins did not dress Kyle Ermel who was left back in Estevan due to personal issues according to CJ1280 radio of Estevan. The Bruins now have 30 points and are three points back of fourth place Yorkton in the Sherwood Conference. The Hawks remain firmly entrenched in fifth spot in the Itech.

In North Battleford, the North Stars had a 2-1 lead at one point but could not hold on as they fell 4-2 to the visiting La Ronge Ice Wolves. Jarrid Dowhay scored twice for the Ice Wolves, including the game winner at 11:10 of the third period. Jordie Johnston, who has been the SJHL's hottest forward as of late picked up a goal and two assists for the Wolves. Calvin Fiddler had the other La Ronge goal. Shawn McNulty and Jason Walker each had a goal and an assist for the North Stars. Fiddler and teammate Codie Pederson, playing his first game of the season after recovering from injuries in an offseason car accident, were both ejected in the second period. Fiddler was assessed a match penalty which will likely carry with it a 3 to 5 game suspension from league disciplinarian Laury Ryan. Pederson received a gross misconduct which could also result in supplementry discipline for him. Brian Kaval had 26 saves to pick up the win for La Ronge. Adrien Lemay got another start for the Stars and played well allowing only three goals on 39 shots. The Ice Wolves improve to 15-12-1-1 and leapfrog the Flin Flon Bombers into third place in the Itech Conference. The North Stars fall to a record of 3-23-1-2 and have only nine points on the season.

Tonight's Three Stars:

* Jarrid Dowhay - La Ronge Ice Wolves (2 goals in win over Battlefords)
** Karsten Felske - Estevan Bruins (45 saves performance against former team)
*** Jordie Johnston - La Ronge Ice Wolves (3 point night)

Saturday in the SJHL:

Weyburn @ Melville - Will the Wings be able to beat the Millionaires for the first time this season?
Kindersley @ Humboldt - Will Matt Weninger get a chance to continue his shutout streak for the Klippers?
Estevan @ Melfort - Will the Bruins be the team to stop the Mustangs point streak?
Nipawin @ Flin Flon - Will the Hawks be able to handle the Bombers big three?

Check back tomorrow night for the answer to those questions. As for your Wings - it is not expected that new acquisitions Adam Feniak or Shawn Courtney will be available tomorrow night but hopefully will be available for Tuesday when the Wings host the Nipawin Hawks.
