FINES/SUSPENSIONS

February 27/08

The SJHL suspends Weyburn D Shawn Courtney for the balance of the Selection Series as well as Game 1 and Game 2 of the Sherwood Conference Semi-Final for leaving the penalty bench to participate in a multiple fight.

Weyburn players Connor Krukowski, Eric Calibaba, and Nick Needham are suspended for the balance of the Selection Series for participating in a multiple fight.

The Red Wings are fined $600 for being deemed instigators of the multiple fight by having a player leave the penalty box to participate in a fight. The Melville Millionaires are fined $400 for inappropriate team/player conduct on the bench during a multiple fight.

why doesnt beech get suspended for leaving the box????

Ok let me get this straight as I never seen any of this.
As I understand it the wings have Courtney gone for leaving the bench to fight. Did he fight by himself or his shadow? So what about the Melville player Beech, who also left the bench to fight, was he also suspended?
Krukowski, Needham and Calibaba were also suspended for multiple fights. Did they fight each other? What about the Melville players that were also involved?
According to the game sheet Reeve,Hope,Beech and Wilson from Melville and Krukowski,Crokatt,Courtney and Needham were all involved in fights. Calibaba had goaltender interference.
So my question to anyone who can answer it is
WHY IS WEYBURN THE ONLY TEAM THAT HAS PLAYERS SUSPENDED? IF ALL THESE PLAYERS LISTED WERE FIGHTING AND ONLY WEYBURN HAS BEEN SUSPENDED DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE A LITTLE ONE SIDED!!!!
Again this is just my opinion as I never saw what happened, I just read the game summary and am trying to understand why the suspensions are so one sided.

I would suggest all Red Wing fans upset with the punishment let the SJHL President know about it. I am sure his e-mail address and phone number are available on the SJHL website under contacts.

My personal feelings are we deserved what we got but I thought Melville was made out to be the choir boys in the whole thing. Oh well, as usual we will have to put up with the politics at the SJHL office and our league President's agenda. The best way to put this to rest is come out and kick some ass in the next round. Am I not right?

Thid doesn't surprise me, it is clear Laury Ryan does not like the Red Wings, That has been evident for a long time..
As the other blogger on here mentioned, Yes maybe the Wings deserved what they got..But Beech left the penalty box too, & what about the Melville players in multiple fights..
sounds kinda NOT FAIR Mr. Ryan.
What a joke for a league president!!! The SJHL should be embarassed.
Thats right Brad, best way is to kick some ass in the next round,
unless Laury has other plans for us

That's what worries me. What does Laury have planned for us.

Possible Referee assignments if we play Melville:

Game 1: T. Sharpe
Game 2: J. Shaw
Game 3: T, Sharpe
Game 4: J. Shaw

I can see it now.

I wasn't at the game but i heard that it all started when Crockatt was gettin in a fight and the rest of the boys were skating back to their benches and then Connor got slu-footed?! And then the line brawl started... is this what happened.. or was i told wrong?!

you're right. crockatt's fight was the first one that broke out, then connor got hit on his way back to the bench and all hell broke loose. this is absolutely rediculous, there is no way melville should be getting away with no suspensions. i agree that we deserve what we got, but melville deserves a lot more than what they got!! this is a joke!

Ya it is, but... typical Laury Ryan

SHA rule 3.11.22 A Referee-in-Chief or his/her designate shall appoint a referee and two linespersons for quarter, semi, and final play-off games. Sorry we can't blame getting Sharpe as an official on Laury Ryan. What Ryan et al. decided about suspensions the next day is a puzzle.

Under Hockey Canada/SHA Rule 70(a)

No player may leave the players' bench or penalty bench at any time during a fight.

70(b) For a violation of Rule 70(a) a double Minor penalty shall be imposed on the player of the team who was the first to leave the player's or penalty bench during a fight. The first identifiable player of EACH team to leave their respective benches shall incur a double Minor penalty. A Game Misconduct penalty shall also be imposed on any player penalized under this section, plus any other penalties he may incur. Refer to Section (d).
(c) Any player (other than those dealt with under Section (b)) who leaves his players' or penalty bench during a fight and is assessed a Minor, Major or Misconduct penalty for his actions, shall incur an automatic Game Misconduct penalty. Note 1: A maximum of 5 players per team may be assessed Game Misconducts for violations of Sections (b) and (c) of this rule during a stoppage of play.
(d) A penalized player may not leave the penalty bench (whether or not play is in progress) except at the end of the period or on the expiration of his penalty. A Minor penalty shall be assessed for a violation of this rule including the situations dealt with under (b) and (c) of this rule (except if there is a Penalty Timekeeper error)

I think points to remember when seeing penalties assessed: be sure to differentiate between penalties for players already on the ice and those leaving a bench when a fight is in progress
:the 6 min penalty and GM - 4 min. and GM for rule (b) and an additional 2 and a GM for Rule (d)
That is what the Ref did - both Courtney and Beech got 6 minutes and 2 GM. (All is good so far.)

Now for the Hockey Canada/SHA Playing Guidelines on Suspensions (Laury Ryan has to follow these basic rules because they can't be diminished but can be extended)
H) Rule 70 b) violations receive Triple Minor and GM PLUS 4 game suspension

I)Multiple Game Misconducts
(Courtney and Beech got 2 at that stoppage) Player(s) or Team Official Multiple GM receive 1 game for each offense over 1.

That was sure a long convoluted explanation for why Courtney and Beech should both be OUT.

Now don't get me started on Feisel's radio statement Beech came out because the action was so uneven, 5 on 7 for the Wings. (When Cali and Coutney came out of the box it was 5 on 6 and when Beech came out it was 6 on 6. Everything happened so fast and I was more interested in Hope in the Mils' players' box taking on Pawlyshyn. D. Hope got a fighting and GM and the Mil's bench got a $fine)
Now, I'm going to put my rule books away for the rest of the play-offs and hope to enjoy a GOOD, LONG, HOCKEY RUN. Go Wings!

Hi AC,

Thanks for letting Mr. Ryan no your thoughts and I for one would be interested in seeing the e-mail you sent and the response.
